Quite often referred to as YAAAAAAASS (by me, not sure who else does this), Yass is 30 minutes drive from Canberra, and offers some great walking and picnic spots around the town. The name Yass is actually said to be derived from the Aboriginal word “Yarrh”, meaning “running water”. Dramatically, Yass River often floods its banks.
