The World Trade Center - New York City

from $125.00

I took most of the images of the Oculus at the World Trade Center in black and white to give it a reverential feel. I wanted to honour and respect those who have passed. However, this shot I took in colour to capture the quintessential yellow of the New York taxi cab. I once had a flatmate who survived the felling of the twin towers (he was in the restaurant up top when the first plane struck), it haunted him decades on and he suffered from survivors guilt. So it was with his horrific stories in mind, that I visited this part of NYC.

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land on which I live and work and pay respect to their elders past and present. For over 65,000 years, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders of the lands and waters have been telling stories through their art and dance. I recognise that this land that I create on was never ceded, and that it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
