Kinglake Nature Park, Victoria, Australia

from $125.00

It is a short walk from the carpark to Mason's Falls and the view is quite spectacular.

Afterwards, my support worker and I intended on walking the Lyrebird track, but ended up taking a 15km detour up the mountain. We didn't quite make it to the top of Sugarloaf, but the Running Creek Track was tough going and whilst I didn't need to take my ventolin, I did need to make plenty of stops.

Because this track did not follow the creek as I had thought (the lyrebird track does) and because of intermittent rain (I had to keep hiding my camera from the rain), I only took 18 photos for the day.

With 90mins left of the hike still before us the clouds descended and a thick mist lay all around us. The forest fell silent and it was eerie as.

Fortunately we made it back to the carpark in one piece and I live to tell this epic tale.

Tip for photographers/hikers - always double check the maps and your intended route in bushland (download maps beforehand as you probably won’t have reception); it can get treacherous fast, and always let someone know where you are going and your expected ETA.

I acknowledge the Wurundjeri Woi Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional owners of the land on which I live and work and pay respect to their elders past and present. For over 65,000 years, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders of the lands and waters have been telling stories through their art and dance. I recognise that this land that I create on was never ceded, and that it always was and always will be Aboriginal land.
