Gala Exhibition Opening @ VAS

VAS (Victorian Artists Society) is a beautifully cared for heritage listed building which has housed great landscape painters such as Frederick McCubbin & Arthur Streeton. I am in awe of the venues historical past, however I cannot wait to blaze a new path bringing VAS's first queer, trans solo exhibition with my anarchic series The Reclamation of Terra.

After the official Welcome to Country, you can expect a diverse range of rainbow artists (& a token cishet performer) to perform for you, whilst being interpreted into Auslan.

Performances will run for approximately one hour, however this is a relaxed event, so feel free to come and go as you need. The Spotify playlist and exceptional performers (hosted by the divine Goddess Naavikaran) have all been chosen for a family friendly atmosphere so feel free to bring your mini-me’s & the like.

There will also be a secret artwork revealed on the night for further interaction with the exhibition (don’t forget to write in the series Look Book whilst you’re visiting the exhibition).

The venue has an accessible side entrance, toilets, and a lift to take you up to the first floor where you will find my exhibition “The Reclamation of Terra” in the glorious high-ceilinged Hammond Room.

The gala launch will be fully catered with a selection of finger food from dal Catering (doing amazing things down in Geelong, look them up!), which will have gluten free, nut free, vegetarian, and vegan options, & there will be a free bar generously supplied by Dan Murphy’s, including a non-alcoholic punch which will be suitably fruity.

There will be a photographer & videographer on the night, so please let my bar staff know if you do not want to be captured for prosperity. They will give you a gold star sticker to wear so my media staff know you are opting out.

As this is an accessible event, I ask that masks be worn when possible. The Hammond Room has a (non-smoking) balcony, which will be open the whole night for ventilation. Auslan interpretation will be provided by Gemila Burgess. Audio description, by me, for all works can be found in the link below.

Whilst this is a gala event, the dress code is YOU. Show us who you are. The glittery flair, the quiet reader, the frilly ally, the leathered extrovert. You are welcome in this House of Rainbow Terra. I want to see all members of the LGBTQIA+SB community and our allies.

The Reclamation of Terra runs from 25th January - 5th February.

Supported by Victorian Artists Society, Thirds Fine Art Printing, Treasury Wine Estates, and Creative Partnerships Australia through the Australian Cultural Fund (along with all of the individuals who are supporting this event including: Raegan Lester, Alex Creece, Meghan Machado, Kate Hall, Braiden Asciak, Luke David, Liz Mutineer and all of the lovely philanthropists who wish to remain anonymous), as part of the Midsumma Festival.
